Communications

Mission

Responsibility for the design and architecture for communications and to guarantee continuous service, reliability and security. It is also responsible for connecting the municipal data, audio and video systems. Global managers of communications technology for the municipal corporation.

Metropolitan area network

The corporate multimedia network of the City Council links eight municipal buildings together using paired single-mode fiber optic cables. These cables are the property of Telefónica and leased to the Council for its exclusive use. They can transfer any type of protocol. These cables form a ring, with connected Ethernet switches at speeds of 10Gbps. The buildings are:

CORT - AVINGUDES - JOAN MARAGALL - ANSELM CLAVÉ - SON BANYA - SON PACS - SON MOIX - SANT FERRAN

The internal local area networks of each building consist of Ethernet switches at speeds of 100/1000 Base T, which link this installation with the fiber optic ring. The local area networks of smaller offices with 10 or fewer personal computers link to the corporate network through virtual private networks.
